Bachata is a dance from the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean islands. Both the music and the dance have been influenced by Merengue, Salsa and Cumbia and is now danced all over the world. Several slightly different styles have emerged but, unlike salsa, they all share the same basic step.
The style of bachata depends on where one is dancing and the music you are dancing to. We teach mostly urban style Bachata which involves closer contact, a little bit of improvisation, and dips. This style is featured in our "Latin Dance" class on Wednesday evenings 7:30-8:30 p.m.
